Glastonbury 08

So it was that in January 2008 I was invited to appear at Glastonbury, to play and to work with the Replay Music organisation teaching ukulele to children. Again this year the Glastonbury Festival organisers teamed up with Re-Play Music of London, to provide performances, workshops and instrument giveaways in the famous Glastonbury Kidz Field. All workshops and instruments were provided free of charge; the ukulele workshops taking place each day from 11am to 2pm. Started by Lisa Nasta of London's Surrey Strings in 2003, Re-Play is a charitable,non-profit organisation that accepts any broken or disused instrument, repairs them with qualified craftsmen, re-cycles the instruments for redistribution to children, schools & disadvantaged communities. Re-Play stages workshops at all of the key UK summer music festivals, naturally Glastonbury enjoys the highest profile of these. Throughout Glastonbury 2008, Re-Play provided free music lessons on ukulele. Ashton Guitars supplied 30 entry level ukuleles for the kids to learn on. However, to celebrate my participation in Glastonbury 2008 & my recently established relationship with them, premier ukulele manufacturer KoAloha Ukulele of Honolulu, Hawaii, kindly donated a couple of unique, handcrafted koa wood Soprano & Concert models for two lucky recipients. Our very own Ukulele Orchestra of Glastonbury performed on The Leftfield Stage on the final day of the Festival! It was my privilege to teach ukulele to some wonderful kids on behalf of Re-play & to present KoAloha Ukulele at the UK's foremost summer music festival. Catch some of my visual memories on the Glastonbury Memories page & see you next year! See you all next year!
